The headland is Neahkahnie Mountain, a dormant volcano that stands guard over Manzanita. It is the purported hiding spot for 18th century treasure, as well as the physical incarnation of Kahnie, god of the Nehalem Indians.

Kelly grew up with Neahkahnie as a backdrop for daily life, as well as the name of her high school.

LeeAnn’s great-great-great grandfather Elbridge Trask and great-great grandfather Warren Vaughn both scaled Neahkahnie in the mid-1800s on their way to stake Donation Land Claims in Tillamook County.

As icons go, Neahkahnie Mountain is a natural for Kelly and LeeAnn.
